Movie Image at 2318 Shattuck has got a good selection of films, especially non-U.S. films, and the lectures offered by the staff about being 'more responsible' when paying (rapacious) late fees are amusing, but I'm wondering if anyone has any other recommendations on the best place to rent flicks -- Reel? Netflix? Greencine?
Posted by jeffubois at March 11, 2003 08:23 PM | TrackBackWell, for DVDs, I think it's hard to beat Greencine. I wrote about them here.
A few days ago I rented my first video from... The Berkeley Public Library. You get it for free for a week. They have a decent selection of older and more classic stuff. It's definitely worth checking out.
Posted by: peterme at March 12, 2003 07:52 AMhonestly, i am happy with netflix. i know they are bigger & badder- i plan to check out greencine soon. but netflix is pretty darn good.
i also love reel, movie image, captain video (grand ave, oakland) and there is a corner video store near me that doesn't have the best selection, but is only 99 cents for 3 days!!! (Mega Video, on Park Blvd, near the Parkway Theater.)
Posted by: dani at March 19, 2003 03:57 PMThe Video Room, corner of Piedmont Ave and Pleasant Valley, has an immense collection of foreign and cult films, including tons of martial arts and anime. Great employee recommendations and top ten lists. It's the bomb.
