It turns out that whatever kind soul was blessing Gaylord's Cafe on Piedmont with free Wi-fi no longer does so. Laptop-loving Oaklanders fear not, for free connectivity (does "connect" mean the same when it's not physical?) can be found at Rooz Cafe, on Piedmont, a bit beyond 41st.
Posted by peterme at September 1, 2003 09:48 PM | TrackBackThanks for posting this! I'm going to definitely check Rooz Cafe out -- free wifi and good food and ambience -- triple threat!
The only reason people should go to places is not because something is free, like wi-fi. This great little cafe has alot to offer, good honest food, nice staff, great music, clean bathrooms, and for those computer geeks they also have a computer you can rent out for cheap. So stop going to small businesses and take advantage of their free stuff and then turn around and go to starbucks and spend your money. SUPPORT YOUR SMALL BUSINESSES!
Posted by: Henry at October 24, 2003 10:06 PMThat's very nice of you to include a star#$&^ plug in your little comment Henry. I'm sure the search indexes will pick that up and you'll get your marketing money - also thanks for the holier-than-thou flame and for informing us all what we 'should' do, we're grateful, but you missed the point. Those of us that are not into the conglomerate nickling and diming us for every service are grateful to hear of those places that offer free services. I go to my local cafe but they charge for internet, its nice to hear of places to which I can hike an extra mile to get (maybe you didn't read the header), Free Wifi, Decent Coffee, Salads, etc.
Thanks for the info BeastBlog, there are also a couple other free wifi cafes nearby (a short drive down Pleasant Valley Rd. from Rooz) by Lake Merritt on Grand Ave: Cafe DiBartolo is next door to Walden Pond books and the other I forget the name but its closer to the lake by by the gym near Zza's. Henry will be happy to note that both are independently owned and serve excellent food.
Posted by: ReturnThreat at April 23, 2004 08:47 PMSecond on the Cafe DiBartolo food - it's really good. The paninis are yummy. I never realized they had wifi; now I plan to spend more time there.
