FREE WiFi now available at "Ultimate Grounds" on Park Blvd. in Glenview. Comfy couches, too!

My wife tells me that Rooz Café has started charging for their WiFi service. No more free WiFi on Piedmont Avenue!

Whoops! My wife made a mistake. Free wifi at Rooz (with purchase)!

I can confirm the free wireless access at Ultimate Grounds. While looking for their street address, Google supplied the following page on AMD's website:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Weblets/0,,7832_9947_10255,00.html

It's a list of free hotspots in Oakland. Cato's Alehouse is also listed. If I had only found that webpage before I went to Cato's last night I could have confirmed whether they really do provide free WiFi. Oh the torture, I must return to drink some more and conduct an experiment.

I'm sitting at Sole at 2929 Shattuck (at Ashby) which is a great little Vietnamese/California type cafe with everything from breakfast to burgers to pho and good coffee plus outdoor seating and friendly staff. There are several good wi-fi signals here, though it doens't appear to be an official wi-fi spot. This is a nice little spot and really pleasant to sit and surf plus the coffee is good. It's strongest point is the best menu I've ever seen at a a place with a wi-fi signal and outdoor seats!

Re Rooz cafe - love them! The people there are incredibly nice and the coffee is great. Wish they were in my neighborhood, but sometimes I go to Piedmont just to hang out there and work and have a cuppa.

A note - if you're looking for a meal and don't want to stop surfing, the wi-fi signal extends to the great (and quite reasonably priced) Chinese restaurant next door. But be sure to stop at Rooz for a latte afterwards since they're the one providing the free access and we want them to keep doing so.

the last i heard A Cuppa Tea on College in Berkeley was also offering wi-fi, hope they still do!

here's a good link for a large list of free wi-fi spots in CA.

I migt be mistaken about A cuppa Tea, they do the Surf and Sip, but they might charge as they are not on the list.

Hudson Bay Caffe on College has got a free signal, though I have not tested the quality.

Jahva House on Alice St between 14th and 17th streets in Downtown Oakland has free, totally reliable wi-fi, really strong coffee, and sort of bad ventilation (it can get hot in there).

Check out bayareafreefi.com for the most complete free wi-fi list I've seen so far.

Zocalo Coffeehouse, zocalocoffeehouse.com, has free Wi-Fi and is very laptop friendly with easily accessible outlets.

I could go on, but I'm the owner and that would be a bit self-serving. Check out the website for more information.
